The Social Experiment

Welcome to The Social Experiment, a platform connecting UK university students through events and experiences. These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of our platform, mobile application, and related services ("Services"). By using our Services, you agree to be bound by these Terms.

Eligibility and Account Requirements

Age Requirement: You must be at least 18 years old to use our Services.

Student Status: Our Services are exclusively for current UK university students. You must provide valid university email verification and may be required to provide additional proof of enrollment.

Account Accuracy: You must provide accurate, current, and complete information during registration and keep your account information updated.

Account Security: You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your login credentials and for all activities under your account.

One Account: You may only maintain one active account and may not share your account with others.

Platform Services

Event Creation: Students can create, organize, and promote events to other students within their university network.

Ticketing Services: We facilitate ticket sales through our payment processor Stripe Connect Express, enabling secure transactions between event organizers and attendees.

Social Features: Connect with other students, join events, and engage with university communities.

Payment Processing: All payment processing is handled securely through Stripe. We do not store payment card information on our servers.

Event Organizer Responsibilities

Event Accuracy: You must provide accurate, truthful information about your events, including date, time, location, and event description.

Legal Compliance: You must ensure your events comply with all applicable laws, university policies, venue requirements, and local regulations.

Safety and Security: You are solely responsible for the safety and security of your events and attendees.

Permits and Licenses: You must obtain all necessary permits, licenses, and approvals required for your events.

Payment Account: You must create and maintain a valid Stripe Connect Express account to receive payments, including providing required identity verification.

Communication: You must communicate promptly with attendees about any event changes, cancellations, or important updates.

Tickets, Payments, and Refunds

Payment Processing: All ticket purchases are processed through Stripe Connect Express. By purchasing tickets, you agree to Stripe's Terms of Service.

Platform Fees: We charge a platform fee on ticket sales to cover service costs and payment processing.

Event Cancellation Refunds: If an event is cancelled by the organizer, attendees are entitled to a full refund of their ticket price, processed within 5-10 business days.

Misrepresentation Refunds: If an event is substantially different from what was advertised (wrong venue, different content, etc.), attendees may request a full refund within 48 hours of the event.

Standard Refund Policy: Other refund requests are subject to the individual event organizer's refund policy, which must be clearly stated before ticket purchase.

Refund Process: Refund requests should be submitted to boris@socialexperiment.app with your ticket confirmation.

Disputes: Payment disputes are handled according to Stripe's dispute resolution process.

Prohibited Activities

You may not use our Services to:

• Create events that violate UK law, university policies, or promote illegal activities

• Organize events involving discrimination, harassment, or hate speech

• Sell tickets for events that do not exist or that you do not have authority to organize

• Impersonate others or provide false identity information

• Engage in fraudulent ticket sales or payment activities

• Create events promoting excessive alcohol consumption or illegal substance use

• Share explicit sexual content or organize events of an adult nature

• Spam, harass, or abuse other users

• Use the platform for commercial purposes beyond legitimate student events

• Attempt to manipulate or circumvent our safety measures

Content and Intellectual Property

Your Content: You retain ownership of content you create and post on our platform.

License to Us: By posting content, you grant us a non-exclusive, royalty-free license to display, distribute, and promote your content within our Services.

Content Removal: You may delete your content at any time. We may also remove content that violates these Terms.

Our Platform: All platform technology, design, and trademarks remain our intellectual property.

Respect Others' Rights: Do not post content that infringes others' intellectual property rights.

Platform Liability and Disclaimers

Platform Role: We provide a platform for students to connect and organize events. We are not the organizer of events and are not responsible for their content, quality, or safety.

No Warranties: Our Services are provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied.

Limitation of Liability: To the maximum extent permitted by UK law, we shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of our Services.

Maximum Liability: Our total liability to you for any claims shall not exceed the fees you have paid to us in the 12 months preceding the claim.

Event Responsibility: Event organizers are solely responsible for their events, including safety, legal compliance, and fulfilling obligations to attendees.

Account Suspension and Termination

Termination by You: You may terminate your account at any time through your account settings.

Termination by Us: We may suspend or terminate your account if you violate these Terms, engage in fraudulent activity, or misuse our platform.

Effect of Termination: Upon termination, your access to our Services will cease, but these Terms will continue to apply to past activities.

Outstanding Obligations: Termination does not affect outstanding payment obligations or refund entitlements.

Stripe Connect Express Terms

Payment Processing: By using our ticketing services, you agree to be bound by Stripe's Connected Account Agreement and applicable terms.

Identity Verification: Event organizers must complete Stripe's identity verification process to receive payments.

Payment Schedules: Payments are transferred to organizers according to Stripe's standard payout schedule, typically 2-7 business days after the event.

Compliance: Organizers must comply with all applicable financial regulations and tax obligations.

Consumer Rights (UK)

Statutory Rights: Nothing in these Terms affects your statutory rights as a consumer under UK law.

Distance Selling: For ticket purchases, you have the right to cancel within 14 days, unless the event occurs within this period or you expressly waive this right.

Unfair Terms: If any term is found to be unfair or unenforceable, it will be modified to be fair and enforceable while preserving our intent.

Consumer Protection: Our Services comply with the Consumer Rights Act 2015 and other applicable consumer protection legislation.

Governing Law and Disputes

Governing Law: These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales.

Jurisdiction: Any disputes will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.

Alternative Dispute Resolution: We encourage resolving disputes through direct communication first. If unresolved, you may use Online Dispute Resolution platforms as required by EU law.

Changes to Terms

Updates: We may update these Terms from time to time to reflect changes in our Services or legal requirements.

Notification: We will notify you of material changes via email or prominent notice in our app at least 30 days before they take effect.

Acceptance: Continued use of our Services after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the new Terms.
